Extra Help

Extra help is available for students with a disability, mental health condition or specific learning difficulty, and for students with siblings or adult dependants.

Disables Students

Disabled students in the UK can apply for the Disabled Students Allowance, which provides extra financial help for those who have a disability or a specific learning difficulty.

They are available to full-time, part-time and postgraduate students and are paid in addition to the standard student finance package. The amount received is not dependant on an applicant’s household income and most importantly they don’t have to be repaid!

Parent Students

If a person is in full-time higher education with dependent children, they may be eligible for extra financial aid help on top of the standard student finance package. Depending on their circumstances, they may be able to get one of the following:

  • The Childcare Grant (to help with childcare costs)
  • Parents’ Learning Allowance (to help towards costs related to the student’s course)
  • The Access to Learning Fund (help for students on low incomes )
  • Child Tax Credit
