University students are taking steps to help cope with the rising cost of living, a new study has found.
According to a report by Abbey, 50 per cent of UK students are planning to sell personal belongings on ebay in order to pay for the rising costs of essential goods and services, caused by the current economic climate.
Other methods for coping with university costs cited included cutting down on nightlife (40 per cent) and searching for second jobs during term-time (14 per cent).
Commenting on the findings, Steve Shore, director of banking at Abbey, said: "The majority of students living on a fixed income may find the coming months tough with the price of essential goods and services such as food and energy continuing to rise."
He added that university students should ensure they set themselves a "strict" budget and shop around for the best deals .
