Students Offered Credit Card Fraud Insurance

Fri, 07 Aug 2009

Barclays is offering students protection against fraudulent use of credit cards as part of a new student account package.

Those who apply for a Barclays Student Additions bank account can also benefit from an interest-free overdraft of up to £2,000, with a further £1,000 overdraft available at a rate of 8.9 per cent EAR.

In addition, Barclays is offering students a Visa debit card with built in contact-less technology, which is designed to save time paying for small items.

The new technology allows users to pay for transactions worth up to £10 without having to type in their pin number or write their signature.

Leading the field with the use of contact-less technology, Barclays has already installed contact-less payment systems in many retail stores across the country.

Andrew Harris, head of current accounts at the bank, said: "We recognise the financial challenges students have and that's why we have looked to provide them with a relevant package to support them through university life."
