Halifax continues student overdraft

Mon, 06 Jul 2009

Those heading to university this September may be interested to know that Halifax is continuing its market-leading student account, which offers an interest-free overdraft of £3,000.

As well as the overdraft, which lasts for up to five years plus another following graduation, students can also take advantage of a visa debit card, 25 per cent discount on AA breakdown cover and 24-hour telephone and internet banking .

There is a 20 per cent discount on debit, store and credit card insurance with the bank account, which provides cover both in the UK and abroad.

Mike Regnier, current account director for the Halifax, said: "The Halifax Student Current Account continues to offer students real long term value as an alternative to up front offers. With the most generous interest-free overdraft available, the potential savings over a three or four-year degree are considerable."

Banking giant HSBC recently announced the launch of a student bank account available for 17-year-olds, which has additional features, such as an overdraft, once the customer gains a place at university.
