A businesswoman has advertised her eggs on the internet in a bid to help repay her huge student debt .
A report in the Daily Mail revealed that accounts manager Marje Khan, from South-West London, has put her eggs up for sale on the classifieds ads site Gumtree.
The 28-year-old is hoping to receive £4,500 for her donation, which would go towards clearing her £50,000 student loan debt .
Miss Khan racked up the huge debt while studying for two degrees in marketing and economics at Brunel University in West London.
She said: 'I know some people won't agree with what I am doing but this seemed to be a good way of earning some money whilst at the same time helping a couple who otherwise wouldn't have a child,' she said.
'Whilst I earn a good salary, by the time I've paid my rent, food and the monthly loan repayments, there is hardly any money left. At some point in the future I might want to buy a house so it's become very important that I pay down this debt as soon as possible.'
Miss Khan read about the idea to sell her eggs over the internet in a magazine but didnt realise it was illegal to be paid for donating eggs in the UK until it was pointed out to her by the Daily Mail.
Miss Khan added: "I placed my ad without any problem so I am shocked to be told it is illegal to sell your eggs in the UK, especially as it was clear from the magazine article many young women in the UK are doing the same thing."
Dr Safaa Elgaddal-Maxwell, a specialist at the London Fertility Centre, warned that people using IVF as a way of making money are often not aware of the full implications.
He explained that although IVF is generally very safe, it can, in rare cases, cause serious side effects.
