The Student Loans Company (SLC) has begun accepting applications for student finance for the 2011/2012 academic year.
Students have until the 30th of June to file their loan applications . However, the SLC advises applications be made as soon as possible to ensure that loans are delivered in time for the start of next years courses.
Returning home students who are not means-tested (i.e. do not depend on family income) and whose circumstances have not changed are only required to sign and send back the form sent to them by the SLC, unless they were on a gap year or had their studies suspended for a year.
Means-tested students will have to re-apply for their student loans either by post or online at direct.gov.uk/studentfinance .
The SLC claims new measures brought in this year will help accelerate the application process, as less time will be used on processing non-means tested applicants.
Andy Topham, the groups assessment manager, said: "The best way to ensure youre financially stable for your next year of study is to apply for your student finance now."
"Over the last year, the Student Loans Company has been working hard to improve the application process. But the system still needs returning students to apply correctly in order to receive their money on time."
