More guidance needed on student finance

More and clearer guidance is needed on student finance if young people are to understand the changes to university fees and how they will be paid, it has been claimed.

According to the Guardian's Matthew Caines, it might be useful for the government and education institutions to release an instruction manual on the matter, with research showing that many people are still confused.

Data from a recent YouGov poll shows that one in three British Parents have little or no understanding of the new fee structures.

Meanwhile, less than a third (31 per cent) of school pupils aged 11 to 16 understand how fees will be paid.

UK students will be asked to pay for their courses only after they graduate and begin earning at least £21,000 per year.

They will never be made to pay up front for their courses, despite the changes to regulations which state that universities can charge up to £9,000 per year for their services.

Only after they begin earning above the threshold will the money be deducted from their wages.

Meanwhile, recent HSBC research showed that one in ten parents will not support their children through university .
