The new student finance taskforce has been backed by universities minister David Willetts.
Headed up by MoneySavingExpert.com founder Martin Lewis and former NUS president Wes Streeting, the body will seek to educate would-be students on the truths and myths surrounding the changes to the English education system.
Mr Willetts explained that it is essential that young people applying for university understand how things will work from 2012 onwards.
"This independent group has the expertise and reach to communicate to a huge number of prospective students, families and teachers as well as to universities," he said.
"I strongly back this new initiative. The group will be well resourced by the sector and we will be listening to what it says."
The universities minister added that no student will be asked to pay up front for their tuition and that there will be increased financial support for low-income households.
Furthermore, graduates will wait until they are in well-paid jobs before they begin their repayments - a fact many critics of the changes have failed to mention.
Mr Lewis recently said it is vital that potential students are educated about debt and understand the implications of the changes before deciding whether or not to attend university
