Students from overseas hoping to attend Cambridge University next year will face a substantial increase in fees .
Overseas students will pay an extra ten per cent in tuition fees for the 2012-13 academic year, figures published in the Cambridge University Reporter and first reported in the Times Higher Education magazine reveal.
This means many international arts and humanities students will pay at least £13,000 a year, while some science courses will cost almost £20,000, the Press Association reports.
The university says the increase reflects "a further rise in university costs and the fees charged by comparable international institutions".
Meanwhile, it has been reported that the university increased its intake of students from state schools last year.
A total of 59.3 per cent of undergraduates admitted in 2009-10 were from state schools, an increase of 0.8 per cent on the year before.
The figures also reveal a 5.1 per cent increase in the number of mature students admitted.
