Those about to graduate are more confident about their chances of finding a job than a year ago, new research shows.
A survey by recruitment firm High Fliers of almost 8,000 final-year students at 30 leading UK universities reveals that they intend to send out a total of 343,000 graduate job applications, up 33 per cent on last year.
Furthermore, 40 per cent expect to begin graduate jobs this year - compared with 36 per cent last year.
Students are also more confident about there earning potential.
The class of 2011 expect an average starting salary of £22,600, up from £22,000 for the past two years.
Martin Burchall, managing director of High Fliers, said: "During the worst of the recession, many of the country's brightest university leavers opted out of job hunting and instead enrolled for further study or went travelling after graduating in the hope that employment prospects would be better when they returned.
"Our latest survey of final-year students shows that confidence in the graduate job market is finally improving."
