The University of Liverpool has unveiled detailed plans on how it intends to invest some £600 million in improving the facilities offered to students by the institution.
It includes a £250 million redevelopment of the university's student accommodation, with £44 million going towards a project to construct a new student residence at the university's city centre campus.
The 710-bedroom development will feature shops and a 250-seat restaurant.
Meanwhile, £350 million has been earmarked for investment in academic facilities, including a £25 million investment in new state-of-the-art teaching laboratories for science students.
The university is also planning to invest £32 million in teaching facilities in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, £7.5 million in an extension to the Management School and £9 million in a refurbishment of its Guild of Students.
Steve Dickson, director of facilities management at the university, said: "Liverpool is an extremely popular choice for students and remains heavily over-subscribed but it's important that all aspects of our student experience - including accommodation - are world class."
