Tuition fee hikes to make people think twice about student loans

Tue, 01 Nov 2011

The introduction of university fee hikes in 2012 will result in young people thinking twice about the financial commitment they are making when opting for a student loan, it has been suggested.

Paul Lewis, vice-president of Credit Confidential, noted the rises in costs are to put individuals under more pressure to give consideration to the monetary burden they are taking on.

The expert observed the changes will also lead to university goers taking their courses much more seriously and becoming increasingly careful when deciding how to spend their student loans .

"People will shop around more and will also demand more from universities and make much more effort," he explained.

Scholars may find they give greater consideration over how best to spend their free time while on campus, choosing to head to the library rather than fritter away their cash in the student's union.

The comments come after a recent BBC Inside Out survey found ten per cent of A-Level students are definitely put off from furthering their education at university due to the tuition fee increases set to be introduced next year.
