Rising rents throughout the UK could be placing additional pressure on student finances as university goers prepare to head back to their place of learning.
A new survey from LSL Property Services has revealed such costs have increased at their fastest rate in a year, with the average tenant now paying around £713 a month.
This trend is likely to have a knock-on effect for scholars moving into rented accommodation and could significantly impact on their student finance budgets.
According to the investigation, tenants parted with 1.2 per cent more money to pay their rents in August than they did in July.
David Newnes, estate agency managing director at LSL - which was created in July 2004 as a result of a management buy-out of Your Move and e.surv Chartered Surveyors from Aviva - said: "We are in the thick of the busiest time of year for the rental market and red-hot demand for properties is driving rents up."
