Scholars could benefit from increased student accommodation investment

Fri, 23 Sep 2011

Scholars in the UK might find accommodation costs may not take up so much of their student loan as a result of increased investment in accommodation for university goers.

With more landlords entering the market, rents could be driven down and Stuart Cook, acquisitions manager at Fresh Start Living - a property development firm aiming to provide affordable private housing solutions - has put forward a number of reasons why prospective proprietors may make moves in the field.

The industry expert noted investors should look at buildings in close proximity to the university, coupled with good transport links.

He explained this type of housing has become highly lucrative, adding: "Student accommodation is now a highly sought-after commodity."

There is currently a shortfall in these kinds of residences in all cities across the UK, Mr Cook explained, with around 100,000 units required.

He added the market is set to be given a timely boost by foreign students staying in Britain when local scholars move to more affordable private halls as a result of rising tuition fees.
