Barclays Student Bank Account

Barclays offer a special Student Additions bank account that provides students with all the benefits that come as standard from a current account such as an interest-free overdraft as well as a range of ‘extras’.

Students can also apply for a Barclaycard with a credit limit up to £600, while other great incentives include the ability to bank online and receive professional advice on all student financial matters.

Other benefits of a Barclays’ student bank account:

  • £200 interest-free overdraft on account opening, with further interest-free limits available up to £2,000
  • Ability to extend overdraft limit
  • Student and graduate Relationship Managers in selected branches
  • Connect card with daily ATM withdrawal limit of £300 subject to available funds
  • Online and telephone banking
  • Mobile banking
  • Mobile top-ups at any Barclays cash machines.


Applications can be completed in any Barclays bank branch. However, in order to be eligible for a Student Additions account, applicants need to:

  • Prove they are in full-time higher education in the UK – UCAS letters acceptable
  • Prove they are a permanent resident of the UK through some form of ID
  • Agree to pay their main source of funding into the Student Additions Account
  • Ensure their main current account is with Barclays.
