Tuition Fees

For the 2008-09 academic year students from Scotland , or studying a full-time degree, HND or HNC course in Scotland , do not have to pay any course tuition fees and may be eligible for a non-repayable bursary as well as a partly means-tested loan to help with living costs. Some full-time diploma courses are also included in this category.

Students that are single parents or have dependants may also be entitled to receive an extra non-repayable, supplementary grant.

In order to be eligible for this support, students must have lived in the UK and the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for three years immediately before the first day of the first academic year of their course. They must also be ordinarily resident in Scotland on the first day of the first academic year of their course, or in other words, not just in Scotland to start the course.

To apply for support for the payment of these fees, students will need to complete an online application by the required deadline with the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) – Scotland ’s government-funded student finance body. Please note that there are separate arrangements for Scottish-domiciled students who will be studying outside of Scotland .
